Healthy Gut

It has been shown in many studies, that during calorie restriction or fasting, our microbiome greatly benefits. In particular, there is one species of bacteria that proliferates when we fast- Akkermansia. It lives on the mucous lining of our guts, an anti inflammatory for the gut lining, keeping it in good shape.

A healthy gut will also mean a better ability to produce serotonin that gets converted to melatonin at night – so better sleep!

We have more gut bacteria DNA than Human DNA in our body.

80 percent of your immune system is in your microbiome, your body’s bacteria, which helps your body with just about every process, including helping you to digest your food, think clearly and even maintain a healthy weight.

It is now becoming widely known how an unhealthy microbiome affects the whole body.

A healthy diverse microbiome can be manipulated  through intermittent fasting and eating a diverse diet.

A healthy gut will also mean a better ability to produce serotonin that gets converted to melatonin in the gut,– so better sleep!

Actually as much as 75% of the production of melatonin is produced in the gut.  So without a healthy gut you won’t produce enough sleep hormone at night.

Furthermore it has been shown that eating in a window of eight hours, and giving yourself at least two hours break from eating before retiring to bed will increase the production Human Growth Hormone at night, which leads to more restorative sleep.
